Hi. I've connected a netgear router/modem to my desktop, no probs. I've got an old laptop & did not expect to be able to share the router, but the adapter came with the kit so I thought I'd give it a go. It's now all connected & configured, but when its scanning for signals it wont stop on the main one which has a strong signal, it just keeps scanning back & forward so I lose it. How do I get it to stop one one channel? I didn't think I would get this far, so its a bit frustrating! Thanks.

Here are a few things to try :
Broadcast the SSID. Change the channel number. Turn the security off or type the WEP/WPA key in hexadecimal rather than as characters.

Thanks for info. Tried all channels but same, it stays on right one for about 3 seconds max then starts scanning again. Disabled security & moved router but no good.Just found that my USB is not a high speed connection, so maybe that's why. Think I need a new laptop after all!

You might be able to alter how aggressively the unit "roams" for a network via Device Manager (Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device manager)
Get into there and find your device (listed under Network Adapters). Right click it and hit Properties. You might be able to find the roam setting amongst the configuration. If you do put it as desensitised as possible (prefers to lock rather than roam).
Apply the changes and see what happens. A long shot but worth trying!

Thanks for that, sounded good but I could not see a roaming setting in properties. Wish it just had some sort of SET button. I've tried clicking APPLY when it's on the right channel, but it doesn't fix it. It gets 100% signal on the correct channel. I'm running XP, by the way. Laptop is an old Dell latitude.

Are you using a netgear software program to configure the wireless connection, or is Windows managing it?
