I am using a Fujitsu Siemens laptop, originally using XP. I upgraded to Vista and my CD drive stopped working. To the extent that it can read CD's and most DVD's still but will not write to either of them.
The drive is a slimtype combo lsc 24081 ata device And I can't write anything to blank CD-r or CD+r Anyone with any advice or ideas where I can find updates or patches gratefully recieved.
Thanks Ryan

I don't think you have a 'filters' problem but you could run through this as it won't cause any harm, here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
When Vista first appeared in beta form a number of manufacturers' optical drives mysteriously misbehaved. I thought this was rectified when Vista was released. This, is possibly your problem, have a look on the Fujitsu Siemens website for any information.

Incidentally, there is no such thing as a CD+R, perhaps you meant CD-RW.

Thankyou for the advice, unfortunately there was not much luck with this. And now all of my blank CD's are being recognised but as DVD's and I still cannot write anything to them.
