Last weekend I received 5000 'Delivery failed' emails. Obviously someone had sent a HUGE amount of spam using my email address! Others must get this problem from time to time. How about an article letting us know how to stop this happening. Is there a way?

5k spam means that your mailbox is Known to somebody and the first thing I'd do is change the Password but if its also so linked to your Web/ISP log in change that too and Remake the password/s ..BUT DO NOT USE THE REMEMBER THIS PASSWORD BOX And Do Make the password that you chance it to a hard to remember but easy for you such as a partial street address with a number as the Harvesting programs cannot interpret these well ...They look for Plain Engish words first then random letters 2nd (and about 8 characters length is OK) So Here is how to strengthen a weak password into a strong impossible password
Say your name is Mike Woods and your password is "MIKEWOODS" you can make out 2 words...add a number "MIKEWOODS1" a bit better but the scan can still see the words and the Number OK? Now lets change the Vowels to numbers "M1K3W00DS1" you can still read it but the scanner cannot unless its very sophisticated and B)For double protection It is only "live" to Log in. Otherwise theres a session cookie made displaying the login details to the Spammers scan program live to log in Ok? (if the tick box is ticked?) I had the same thing happen about a year back and my ISPs Server put a "stop" on my Log-in when it saw the Traffic increase So I reset my password to a mixture type ,unchecked the auto log in , and tightened up my spam controls on my Mail boxes
That is the Only effective solution PS The current spam may have to be filtered out Keep an eye on the number and repost if it does not start to go dowm or disappear (will take a few weeks)
