Since i have re-installed windows xp i havn't got any sound any ideas on what my problem is? cheers

We need to know the make and model of your sound card, whether it's onboard or a separate card.
If you have no idea, then I'd advise that you download and install Everest from MajorGeeks and you will be able to tell us from there.

Go to Start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager.
Check to see if you have any yellow ? or !. If you have right click and update the driver.

OK, launch Everest and then click on Multimedia, then from there you should see an image for Windows Audio, click on that and from there you should get a description of your sound card, post back the results.

imageshack's fine this end, anywho, do you have any other options under Multimedia? If not tell me the manufacturer of your pc
