Hello All, I have had a lot of help from Bricat in THIS Post.
The end result of which is I should reset my PC to factory settings. The problem being I don't know how to do this, and furthermore I do not have ANY disks/Cd's to use to recover the system.
I do however have a d: drive that says recovery on it and was wondering if I can reset my PC back to the factory settings without any floppy or CD but using this d: drive?

Yes, That is what the recovery partition is for.
From this I assume your computer has a make and model number (like Compaq, Sony, HP, Toshiba etc). Can you post this so we can find some instructions for you?

Thank you for your reply, it's much appreciated.
So I don't need a disk or a CD to reset to factory settings?
The PC is a HP Pavilion e309.uk
I think I may have reset this one once before but was many years ago after I messed it up and couldn't recover. ( I was learning about computers! )
When loading up it says press f10 for system recovery.
Now this may be a long shot... but is it as simple as pressing f10 and confirming?

You're on the right tracks!
After hitting F10 its just a matter of following the prompts. If asked, select a format/destructive recovery. That will wipe it clean as a whistle.
Please though back up anything on there you want to keep before doing this!
Fingers crossed, and keep us posted!

You may access System Recovery this way. If you do and you select this you will be presented with a window which will make it clear whether to continue or not.

Thanks for that.
I am buying a flash drive tomorrow and will save all my photo's music etc... to it.
By doing this ( and this may seem a bit obvious ) will all the .dll files on the PC be restored?
This was the problem in the first place, and I would hate to have to loose everything and find that the problem still persists. ( The missing files are to do with the download of updates from the Microsoft updates site, basically these don't work properly or are missing and cant be repaired/downloaded so I am wide open to nasties. see my HJT log if you need to know further, this is a much deeper problem hence the restore to factory settings )
Cheers
Abyss.

The restore will put it in the state it came out of the factory gates in. If you run through windows update fully after the recovery everything should turn out fine
Stanley's method should work too.

Just to let you know I have now fully restored my PC, all was going well, installed all MS Patches, SP2 etc.. but now it has started again.
I went to the MS update site and It says page cannot be displayed again encountered a problem!
I know That when downloading the last updates there was 0 Critical updates needed for me.
There was some optional, but that's it.
Any ideas?

WOW, Cheers GMAC!
Is that site the same as the windows update site? Does it do the same thing?
I am now on FireFox and used that site to update.

Good to see you're pleased!
Yes, Windizupdate will install your Microsoft Updates just the same as the official Microsoft method. You might have to wait a few days for recent updates, that's all.
Enjoy using Firefox, I wasn't expecting you to keep it, but it's all good. It's highly recommendable over IE.
Any more trouble, post back!
