uninstalling software
      #363698 - Fri Aug 31 2007 10:40 PM

i am trying to uninstall some old and unused programs but they do not appear in the add & remove section of control panel or even the start menu. they are listed in "C/program files" but deleting them directly from there is probably not a good idea. "C/program files" also contains folders from previously deleted programs. any ideas how to remove these would be helpful

diesel6000 , quite often when you remove programs via/add remove , you will still find stray , left over files from that program , scattered around your hard drive. To to do a proper clean up you have to remove these manually.
In your case take each unused program one at a time and check it's folder as it may have come with it's own uninstaller. If not then it's a manual uninstall. Just be sure you're 100% certain what you're removing. Any doubts , and right clicking on the file and choosing properties may give some information.

hi fife flyer, i took your advice and deleted the programs as described. i then used c cleaner and iolo system mechanic to clean up any left over files. this seems to have worked as every thing seems to be operating as it should. (for now) thanks for the help.
