Wireless network problem.
      #362920 - Sat Aug 25 2007 09:18 PM

Hi.
I have a network at home consisting of a main PC, with a Linskys router attached to my cable modem, which then serves two laptops which all works well and has done for some years. That's the good news! A few years ago we planned to go on holiday with some friends, so they came to us with their laptops, I gave them the security code to my network (WEP enabled) they logged in and we all merrily searched away to find our perfect holiday.
When we recently tried to do the same again to book another holiday, none of them could log into my network. I do have vague memories of within the last couple of years, of reading in Webuser, a way of making a wireless network more secure and stopping other poeple logging onto it, thinking what a good idea that was and adjusting my settings accordingly. Unfortunately I can't remember what I did or how to undo it!
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I'm not totally sure, but you might have set the hub only to accept new connections when it is put in registering mode, or asked to search for the other laptops. This is the case with mine, anyway. Nothing connects without the key and the hub being set in registering mode.

Does the router have a reset button? That may be the quickest and easiest way and then just re-input all your normal security stuff.

Thanks for the reply. When you say the hub do you mean the router, and it's that I need to go into to alter the settings, or are you talking about the main PC?
Sorry for being dense but!!!!!

no worries, its me being a dolt with words. Yeah, i did mean the router there, and altering its settings.

Before you do that though I would take a good look at greysts solution there
