Have you ever has the system go to BIOS at start up to tell you that multiple operating systems are installed and giving you the choice of which one to use? This would normally happen if you have upgraded from an earlier OS such as ME or have, say, a Linux OS in place. It also happens when the an OS is reinstalled.
What's important is working out which copy of XP is being used to boot the PC. You need to identify which folder by reading the boot.ini file which will contain the file path to the XP folders on your hard drive. Once you know which one is being used, you should be able to delete the other.
There is a way of viewing and editing the boot.ini file so that it points to the correct copy of XP....but I can't remeber how at the moment, sorry!

Thanks Andy
I think thats this issue On Start up its shows 2 Xp home start links up Both work And I've not noticed which way they are routed
Needs more investigation on How the BIOS setting Are configured
Supplementary question How do I know which is which when I get down there?
Sounds like the "which wire on the Bomb" to make it safe? routine

Firstly, you need to change boot.ini, i.e. right-click My Computer, Properties, Advanced Tab, Start up & Recovery, Settings (at the bottom) then Edit the boot.ini file to select the OS you want.
Secondly, just delete the unwanted OS.
It's all here http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=888023

Thank you Mr Walnut. I knew I had done all of that myself in the past but could not remember the key words for the KB search!
