Had powerDVD 5.0 preinstalled on computer, had a look at Cyberlinks website today and thought I was able to upgrade free of charge to version 7.0. After downloading and opening program I realise its a 30 day trial and I have to pay to upgrade so uninstalled and realised I've lost version 5.0 as well, was wondering if windows media player 11 was adequate to play DVD's instead of powerDVD, I've also down loaded K-lite codec pack, dont know if I need this but after reading some of the threads thought it might be a good idea, dont really want to spend a wad of cash on this so some help would be appreciated.

Did you not get a Power DVD CD with your PC? They normally provide one even if it is pre-installed. What version of Windows are you using?

WMP can't play DVD's with it's own programme. It relies on an external decoder to play them. It may find the Power DVD decoder still installed on your PC and it will use that. Only thing to do is to try it and see what happens.
