Great Link, here another one I use which shows you what the spiders see when they view your site, also shows keyword density and a whole bunch of other tools

Touche, great link returned!

This Compete site gives you some Site Analytics for the big sites.

Mine is too small - it says insufficient numbers!

I use www.google.com/analytics

Your tip about spiders made me realise my site could be more spider-friendly.

Here are some helpful Spider tips!

One thing I have realised I'm guilty of on my Frontpage site (ok I'll rewrite it one day) is linking to the home page incorrectly.

ecademy.com say: All internal links pointing to the home page of the site should link to "/" or "http://www.sitedomainname.com/". Any sort of "index.html", "default.asp" or "main.jsp" in the URLs of those internal links introduce unnecessary problems like the duplicate content problem and split page's authority."

For you Frontpage people out there:

You can quickly change all of your code in Frontpage by clicking

Replace <a href="../"> with <a href="../">

Remembering to click Find in All Pages and Find in Source Code.

Some of the advice offered in this article is absurd & laughable. A few examples of this:

#2 - arguable, this is not always the case

#3 - nonesense

#5 - nonesense

#7 - nonesense, I know of many sites and webpages that haven't changed in years that rank top 3 in google for highly competative keywords and phrases.

#8 - nonesense

#10 - what tags???

#11 - including your keywords up to five times could be seen as attempting to spam the SE.

#12 - there are many ways to get indexed quickly

#13 - depending on google alone for traffic is a bad business model, so plenty of other links are important plus it gives your site a wide & varied backlink profile.

#14 - link exchange farms are a BAD idea, read this page from google webmaster guidelines to clarify this.

#16 - using such methods will result in SE's detecting duplicate content and you'll achieve nothing, you're own original conent is the way to go.

#17 - here is a PageRank comparison table for rough PR numbers

#19 - waiste of time.

I'm not having a go at dangermouse75 for posting the article, just pointing out a few points in the article that I feel could send many forum members down the wrong path with their own sites.

Perhaps if anyone is interested I could offer some small posts in regard to tweaking your sites for Google.

Mick
