I have a Website which uses a lot of jpeg/gif files to show what i am selling. Most images have been taken from the manufacturers own sites or CDroms sent to me but some i have struggled to find. I have been told that although you can protect the images to avoid right click - save picture etc it is quite easy to get around it. In any case i still would like to protect some of my images not all to at least put off some. How do you add copyright or protect a jpeg etc?
As you say, you cannot prevent images being taken - the moment it's viewed in the browser it's on the visitors PC and easily grabbable from the cache, regardless of any deterrent. All you can do is splash a huge watermark across them, ruining the image.
What you perhaps should be asking yourself is; why would anyone take an image, and for what purpose. If any image that you own (as opposed to 'acquired' of another site or source) is that commercially valuable DO NOT PUT IT ONLINE.
Besides, the net is massive, what is the likelihood of you seeing a 'stolen' image being used? Pretty negligible.
Of course, you could pay for a service like Digimark...

i see what you mean - i have for instance taken 3 images this morning from a radiator company based in the uk but the only images i can get for their products currently are from their own site in france. I will sell their goods with these images and i will be the 1st in the uk to do so. So i do not want other competitors to copy my copies by right clicking easily. Yes they can still get them as you say but i know i couldnt be bothered when i came across this before so i am hoping most others wont be bothered either

What a hypocrite you are. You take photographs from someone elses site (presumably without getting their permission first) and you're now trying to stop anyone doing the same to you. Even worse you're trying to stop other people taking the photos you yourself took from another site !!!
