Not sure if it is a sign of what we put up with, but I had a recent sale to a person in Canada that immediately flagged up the alarm bells. First their user name was something like 'FGFHFHFH' (Mods: this isn't the actual name) which you can basically achieve by holding two fingers over the keyboard in one place.
Next the address was basically the same - juumbles of letters. So I reported it to eBay hoping that they might accelerate the Unpaid Item Process. In the meantime I checked out the buyer and they had bought 16 random items within two hours on the same day - they had registered in May this year so it seemed weird they had suddenly decided to buy after no activity.
Next day I got a standard email from eBay Canada - just advising they were looking into it. At this point I thought, 'Fine, another instance of eBay doing nothing'.
Next day I get an email from Amy at eBay Canada saying 'matter had been looked into and action taken' with the usual splurb that they couldn't say what due to confidentiality. Anyway, I check my sale, and the fake User has been suspended, I can apply for a UPI and got my fee back straight off...............
Now someone at eBay UK had obviously forwarded my email, so some credit, but in the past when we have been hit by these phoney buyers (and they buy anything from 15 to 300 items in a day and never pay) eBay UK have been hopeless. You have to wait 7 days to file a UPI, then 8 for it to got through and meanwhile the user is sometimes STILL buying.
Seems like the sloth-like response of eBay is a UK trait.
-------------------- I loved my grandmother very much.......and she fetched a good price on eBay.
