Hello Everyone,
Sorry if this has been covered before. I did do a search of the forum but there were a lot of answers!
My problem is with Sky broadband disconnecting when I leave my computer downloading. I've checked all the power options in Windows control panel but when I switch off the monitor and just leave my PC to download, when I try to use the computer again and login-in to my account the connection has dropped and I have to restart just to get back online. Very frustrating! All help gratefully received! Thanks.
Best wishes, Sonny

If its the wireless thats playing up -
Turn off UPnP.
Type 192.168.0.1 in the browser's address bar and you should see a sign-in box.
Type the user name which is admin and the password which is sky.
Having switched off UPnP, log out of the router. Turn the router off for a minute and then back on, restart Windows.

So sorry for the delay in replying! Connection is through the Sky supplied router (not wireless). Hope that helps. Thanks!

Please accept my apologies for not being able to reply sooner. As above, not using wireless. Cheers.

Look in the router settings (as in the above post) for a keep alive or time out setting. Make sure it's set to 0.

Thanks for sticking with this! Will try your suggestion soon. Forgive my ignorance but what is UPnP?
Cheers!

It's Universal Plug 'n' Play. It's supposed to make things easier when you connect stuff to your computer. To turn it off, go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Scan down the list until you find it than double click on it. Click on the Stop button. To stop it permanently change the Startup Type to Disabled.

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Im a SKY broadband user, i think its the UPNP in the router.
I had same problem when i got connected, and kept dropping the connection every 1 to 2 hours.
Very easy to fix. If you follow Maxping's instructions above, and look down the left side of the menu ( blue coloured ) at the very bottom you will see UPNP, click on that and remove the tick from the box where it says TURN UPNP ON.
Click apply, then restart the router by clicking on DIAGNOSTICS on the left panel, and at the bottom of that screen there is a button to REBOOT THE ROUTER.
Wait untill all the lights on the router have come back on, and hopefully your problem should be sorted.
I have a rock steady connection now since doing the same.
You can find a lot of info on all the Sky Router and Broadband info over on http://www.skyuser.co.uk/forum/
