Uploading website
      #357516 - Sat Jul 14 2007 09:13 PM

I have been maintaining two website - my own personal one and one for a charity. For some time now I have been unable to upload new material to either of them althought I can connect to one but not the other. I have been using dreamweaver for some years. Demon who hosts the website that I cannot even connect to has suggested it is because I have IE7. They have suggested downlaoding a new FTP bit of software. Why can this be necessary? Any other suggestions? Even if I did this how would I then connect this to dreamweaver? Is dreamweaver old hat now? Do I need to use a new programme and if so what? I have limited knowledge of web building but was very happy with dreamweaver as I knew what i was doing

coyote10001, the way I used work is to work locally, then use an FTP program like SmartFTP to upload my files. I have changed the way I work these days due to security and I use WinSCP to SFTP the files across which is basically more secure. You can even use WinSCP to edit files securely over the web by simply using WinSCP to browse for the file and double clicking. The default edit will open up on your machine and you can edit the files, you can even tell WinSCP to use Dream Weaver to open the file up with, so you can continue using your WYSIWYG style editor. One draw back with this is that the server where the site is located on must be able to serve the SFTP connection rather than FTP. Check with your ISP to see if they support SFTP and if they do I'd recommend you go this way.
Here’s a link to get WinSCP ... http://winscp.net/eng/index.php
Here’s a little on how to configure it... http://winscp.net/eng/docs/task_edit
