Minor problem with Firefox
      #357353 - Fri Jul 13 2007 04:46 PM

Hi, please would a Firefox expert suggest how to cure the following:

I have Firefox 2.0.0.4 running on two almost identical computers. When I download files using one of them there is a window at the end of the download which has the name of the downloaded file and in the right-hand corner there is a link to open the file and a link to remove it.

In the other computer this window appears but there aren't any links to either open or remove the downloaded file.

Might this be because I have missed something when installing it or might it just be a quirk of the computer? I have often noticed that computers which have identical software and motherboards (they are on a school network) do not always function in the same way. They all seem to have small quirks of their own.

Ha Ha Chris I'm not an expert in anything , far less Firefox.
However this should be a simple fix. In the computer that has the problem open Firefox and click on tools > options > privacy > and place a tick in the box "remember what I've downloaded" > OK. Next time you download a file the missing options should appear.

Chris

I can recommend the Download Status Bar addon from here. Far more user friendly than the standard FF system.

Many thanks Fyfe Flyer, that did the trick.
You sound very modest when you say you are not an expert on anything - I have got lots of good tips from your answers to other people!

Thanks Spencer, I will give it a try. However the first night of the Proms is just about to start so I will do it tomorrow, depending on what the first night is like.
