Don't think it's a case of that , more you were maybe looking for a simpler solution. ( don't we all ).
I would think the Microsoft article is probably the best option , as the error message you are getting is one we won't see very often , if at all , and the fact it's an older operating system makes it even less common. In saying that method 2 in the article looks pretty straight forward so if you try it please let us know how it goes.

True was hoping it would be easy, but am unable to do any of the 2 it suggests as all i get is the msg repeating itself over and over, windows never starts and have no idea how 2 get to the c prompt when starting a pc
I have tried safe mode and it just sits displaying the windows me logo and goes no further
Will have a google myself see if it suggests anyway
Do you have any suggestions

Sorry Fifeflyer
I did manage to log on eventually, just left it and came back after a while and it was logged on.
Went to follow method 2 but the system restore was already disabled!!!!
I removed the tick added it again and did a reboot, and all seemed ok except i could no longer get on the internet(but sorted that was zone alarm stopping me)
I have done another reboot since then and all came up ok, so no idea what caused it but it seems to have gone away(fingers crossed)
Will enable system restor once I have rebooted again just to make sure all is ok, would have edited my previous post but it said the edit time had expired.
Thanks for your help
