Upload/Download Difference?

I know the obviouss difference between uploading and downloading but when it comes to isp usage, IS there adifference?

If you have a 5Gb allowance per month, does that mean that if you Upload 2 Gb you can only Download 3Gb?

I have just upgraded to Unlimited usage so I am assuming that includes unlimited uploads?
This is mainly for uploading such a huge amount of pictures and backing up many files.

I know this may sound a stupid question but I have to ask

Not stupid at all. Yes you are right. If your total allowance is 5gb then both upload and download count towards that limit.

Are you sure? There are very, very few ISPs that have a true unlimited usage deal. Most of them have a 'Fair Use' or Traffic Shaping' clause in the contract that will allow you to upload a lot but very slowly.

I know what you mean about the unlimited thing.
Their fair policy thing looks like you get 50Gb per month.

This should be plenty.
The main reason for this is because I am getting into Photography and have many pictures to upload and also backing up files will take more than my old 5Gb per month.

I didnt know it included the uploading aswell, not that I upload much at all but it is worth being aware of.

I think I was mistaken. Unlimited (Even with fair use policy) is a lot more that 50Gb...

It seems that BT aren't too worried about off peak times but do restrict bandwidth for people using a LOT of Uploading/Downloading.

Most ISP do have some sort of caps/fups and theres only really one ISP that I can think of that really does do unlimited (for now).

Uploads are included in your allowance by most ISPs. Some ISPs also allow free periods off peak where usage doesnt count.

I try maintain a list of the caps/fup/sups for uk ISPs
