For the last 2 weeks, on my ADSL max (up to 8mbps) connection with AOL, I've been managing, at best, speeds of 256k.
The screen shot I've linked to shows a test I did about 20 minutes ago through BT's website. However, I'm a bit dim at stuff like this, and the only thing here I understand is the 'Actual IP throughput' bit (I believe it means the actual download speed acheived during the test).
So, can anybody here who has a clue tell me what this all means please?
Barring a full uninstall of your connectivity and Broadband drivers
you can reinstall the files if you have them to hand download from KW drivers (and pick your router model (pics to help you) then go into the control panel after going offline and uninstall the Router will be labelled Next click on the file you downloaded and It will reinstall the driver(and it should Connect up as part of the Process (only thing to get "right in the entire process is to Unplug the Blue USB cable and Plug it in (you'll hear a xylophone sound (watch for the Message)
Has that improved matters?
Another way of doing the same job is to click on the Triangular AOL Icon by the clock and select the One-click fixes item on the menu
On the next list scroll down to the Connectivitysection
found the then scroll down again untill you see this item
Quote: Repair ACS This One-Click Fix repairs your AOL Connectivity Service to help fix connectivity issues.
and press the tiny "fixt it for me" button on the right to start the repair wizard
Any joy now? If this does not improve matters then I think the Issue is somewhere on the landline Ask BT to check it and if you can ask a friend what does the connection sounds like when you are talking (is there any background noise? and of course look for any cable damage a single chafed or loose wire can sometimes Knock the signal down sharply Look and Listen for these clues
