In Issue 165 of WU (pg 55) Andy Shaw gives a great review of the "Carbonite on-line PCBackup".
After reading it, I thought I would check it out for myself. I went to www.carbonite.com and had a read through their site and watched a couple of the demos and felt happy that this was for me! I also went with Andy's recommendation of getting 2 years for £50 (1 year is £25). Then I started the process. You download a programme which takes moments and installing is a piece of cake, even for people like me! At the moment I am backing up what I can and am really glad I read the review!
A couple of things I think I should point out are:
If you are unsure about this, Carbonite.com do a 15 day FREE trial which would be worth trying if you are unsure: https://site1.carbonite.com/manage/signup.aspx?packageid=226&
Another thing is REMEMBER YOU ISP USAGE!!!!! Many of us have the "Unlimited" packages allowing unlimited downloads and uploads but not all of us have that! My ISP allows 2GB per month. If you have a limit per month on your upload then bear this in mind when backing up files! Don't try backing up 120Gb if your monthley allowence is 2Gb!!! If your "My Documents" folder is 40 Gigs in size then you wont be able to back it all up in one month!
So remember you usage and upload your files accordingly!
Also, if friends or family are considering doing this, then use the "Recommend a friend" featue as you get FREE credits! Each lasting a month so this is also worth looking into!
All in all it is WELL WORTH doing!
Thanks for pointing it out Andy!
