Hi, I really hope somebody can help me. My family has wanadoo broadband livebox and it is working fine on three computers in the house. i tried to install it onto my pc using the same installation disc as used with the other pcs but it freezes on the first page of the installation process. It then comes up with "install.exe has encountered an error and will now close". The details involve kernel32.dll but i have reinstalled that and the same problem occurs. could the error be with the disc or something on my pc? Anyway i have tried everything i can think of including deleting all temporary files etc so this is my last hope!!
Thanks, eviledd

wWhy are you 'installing' a wireless router? All you need to do is use your wireless adapter to find the wireless network, click on Connect and enter the key when prompted.

Well, wanadoo use only their own adapters and drivers, probably due to getting more money and you need a program to connect to the router, which is provided on the disc. I think its pointless but there aint nothing i can do about it.

Put the disk in the drive.
Go to My Computer, right-click on the CD drive and select Explore.
Look for a folder called Drivers.
Does it contain a .exe file or setup, or lots of smaller files?

no the driver file contains 'tools' and 'USB' files, neither of which have .exe files. there are some setup information files and system files in the USB folder.

OK. That might be a good thing.
Leave the disk in the drive. Cancel it if it autoruns to install.
Plug in the USB adapter.
When the new hardware wizard pops up asking to connect to the internet, select No, not this time and click Next.
Select Install from a specific location (Advanced) and click Next.
Select Include this location in the search and remove any others selected.
Click Browse and navigate to the drivers folder (and the XP one inside that if there is one).
Click OK, then Next.
It will install the drivers needed and Windows will manage the wireless connection.
