Somehow (no idea how!) my father managed to system restore back to Day 1. I am now trying to reinstall AOL but get the following error message:
Can't get registry value: key=software\globespanvirata\adslvalue=language
The modem (BT voyager) is listed on the device manager with a resource conflict, but I cannot uninstall it, update driver, rollback driver or anything. Everytime I try to log on, "the modem cannot be detected".
Any clues from anyone??!!

As it's a Voyager I presume it's a USB connection. You need to unplug it then go into device manager and delete all your USB ports. Let Windows re-install them then re-install the Voyager software. Only after that should you plug it in again.

Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

How do I get Windows to re-install the USB ports, or will this happen automatically?
And I have to delete ALL of them? not just the one that the modem is plugged into?

Delete them all. Windows will re-install the ports automatically when you reboot the PC.
