Internet Explorer needs to close
      #355698 - Tue Jul 03 2007 08:22 AM

I keep getting the IE box appear that tells me that it has encountered a problem and that it needs to shut down and invites me to send an error message. When I take the "don't send" option I am booted off the web page that I am currently viewing (and any that I have minimised) and sent back to my Desktop.

I was attacked by the Downloader Trojan recently but my Symantec real-time AV quarantined it.I have done a full scan and nothing appears to remain. I have also backed-up my registry and re-booted in safe mode and looked at that part of the Registry that Symantec suggested and can not find anything connected with Downlaoder.

Some sites seems to be more susceptible than others for this problem, indeed, bizarely this Web-User site seems to be the worst.

The Error Signature contains the following first two lines:

AppName:iexplore.exe AppVer:6.0.2800.1106 ModName:ntdll.dll
ModVer.5.12600.1217 Offset:00019ecd

I'm not sure if this information is of any relevance because the actual error technical report contains other probably more useful info.

I am running IE6 on XP Pro on a Pentium 111.

Is anyone able to assist me please in eliminating these troublesome incidents ?

Regards - David

This an update on the above Downloader Trojan problem.

I have discovered that I have 2 files that I can't delete/move/rename.

c:/windows/temp/$_234.1234.TMP
c:/windows/temp/$_234.1233.TMP

I have used a utility to "delete" them (Move It) and when I have done this in safe mode they appear to be deleted. But when I re-boot in normal mode they are there again with a most recent time stamp. Something is creating these files on boot-up in normal mode.

After much investigation I have discovered that Torpig creates/uses these files and I saw reference to this after using Spybot but I thought that it had got rid of it.

I really would appreciate some help please.

Thank you.

David

Yes, I have been battling with this "thing" for a couple of days now and discovered what "High Jack Log" was all about and so went down that route.

Thanks for the good luck wish - we all need a bit of that now and again.

David
