Vanishing emails
      #355367 - Sat Jun 30 2007 03:59 PM

Please can someone help me? I am having problems sending email using Outlook on my laptop via my wireless connection although I am receiving without a problem. The message goes via the Outbox and appears to go straight away, but messages are not reaching any of their destinations. I am not getting any error messages and none of the emails come back. However, if I use 'Test Account Settings' a test message is sent via Outlook and the emails arrive both on the laptop and on my main PC. I am using Windows XP and Outlook 2003. I am using the internet via a wireless home network with only my main PC and the laptop. I have run out of things to try.

Any ideas what I need to do to rectify this please?

Cheers

Who is your ISP?

Do you know that we're all in line for succession to the throne? Really?
Well, if forty-eight million, two hundred thousand, seven hundred and one people died I'd be Queen.

Tiscali - who, based on my experience so far, are extremely unhelpful when it comes to technical assistance!

Tiscali have been having some major problems with their servers lately. Have you tried sending an email to yourself?

Yes, I was aware of the server problems, but this is only when using my laptop on the wireless network. This is where I am so mystified; when Outlook generates a test message this arrives on my laptop and on my PC, however when I try to send an email to any of my email addresses it doesn't arrive. I know that my emails are getting through when sent via my PC. I have compared all the settings on Outlook with those on my PC and I have full Internet access from the laptop.

Any ideas please?

That's why I asked if you had sent an email to yourself. The test setup isn't enough. You need to make sure that the settings of the SMTP server that you have put into the system is actually transmitting your mail to the correct server.

I have checked the SMTP server settings on the laptop against those on the PC and they are exactly the same. My emails are arriving at their destination when sent fromt the PC but not from the laptop.

Any other ideas please?

Thanks.

Only to reiterate Greysts question. Have you tried sending an Email to yourself using Outlook on your laptop, not the test settings, an actual Email? If so, did you receive it OK?

Yes I have done this, but the emails did not arrive. I didn't receive any error messages nor were the emails returned undelivered. I did send emails using my web mail account via the laptop and they did arrive.

Have you tried deleting your Email Account on your laptop and setting it up again? I had a similar problem to yours with Orange and the helpful (for once) techie there talked me through this procedure which xcured my problem. If you know your POP and SMTP settings as well asa your ISP settingsit is straightforward (says he who needed his hand holding through it!)

Thanks to all of you for your assistance in this matter. I did try Arandora's suggestion with the account but that was also unsuccessful. However, I uninstalled Outlook then reinstalled and all seems to be working at the moment. The only odd thing is that Outlook Express still has the same problem! But at least I can send my emails remotely now. Thanks once again.

Glad that you are sorted but, like you, puzzled what problem was and why it persists in OE.
