I hope someone can help with this problem… We are with Orange Broadband for some years now and have not experienced any problems before. Recently my boyfriend got his own laptop to add to our wireless network at home (Advent machine running Vista) it seems since doing this (or it may be a coincidence!) that our internet access is slow or non existent. I have a Compaq machine running XP and sometimes even when his laptop is shut down I cannot open web pages at all. We have tried resetting the router several times but it does not really help, sometimes only in the short term. I ran a speedtest there and here are the results: The speed test has completed on test server test.speedtester.bt.com for user 01292265495 and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of 84 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second. Your IP address is 90.240.193.53, your browser is reported as being Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and is running on Windows XP. BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service: For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps. For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps. For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps. For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps.
We are on up to 8 meg broadband package but should receive up to 4.5 apparently. Any ideas how we can fix this problem as it’s really annoying. Thanks
