I have set up a not-for-profit website for UK parents to enable them to find places for kids near them. A link to the site is here
Please can you give me some feedback on: a) how easy it is to understand the purpose of the site b) how easy it is to navigate c) how easy it is to add places. d) any other feedback
Positive or negative feedback is welcome.
Any ideas for encouraging people to join in this project would be gratefully received. So far, many of the parents to visit the site have not been very computer literate and have struggled with the whole social networking concept.
Many thanks

Interesting idea. The search is easy and the navigation is simple. Try to get in with some sponsors for free vouchers that sort of thing. that would get us parents looking a bit harder!!
i will keep an eye on this though as a new parent

I have had a quick look at the site, and as I have no small kids of course it is not for me. However I thought I would comment anyway. The site is clean looking and a good idea. The drop down search menu on the front page does not get many results back, but move to the browse page and you then get the choice of England,Wales etc. A better idea. But of course you are then asked to browse again using that drop down browser even when the choice is just one or two.
Until you get dozens of choices from each town or county I would get rid of the drop down choice menu, and let people click on the place of choice and just read the places that have been recommended.
I would use the browse page as the first place the parents come to. If they are not computer literate then make it easy. Just give them a choice of the UK countries and then after clicking on that choice and then the choice of recommended town they could see all results from the one click.
I consider myself computer literate, yet I could not get a result through, although I must admit I did not stay long. As for driving traffic to the site, I have enough trouble driving traffic to my sites, but have you tried 'webring' or my space or any of the other social net work sites?
I hope that this was not to much critisism, but this could be a great idea, and i hope you are succesful with it.

Hi manicmama,
Would it be possible for Web User to have a reciprocal link, in line with the forum guidelines? Cheers.

Ah, right. So how would one get to that page from your homepage?

Well, the site is really about physical locations. However, there are a number of websites listed, including yours. To find your site, you would have to search by keyword. Alternatively, if someone bookmarks the site, it can be found via the tags or looking at the User page of the person who has bookmarked it. I have now done this on my user page here: http://www.littlelegends.biz/people/Vicky

One other thing, the search on the first page where it say filter by category? It may be an idea to include an option that says "All Categories" like you have in the search pages later on in the site. I know that you can search everything by not changing the default options, but I am a bit dim and it took me a while lol.
Also it would be cool to have a clickable map on the front page which allows you to just browse by clicking the area you are interested in.
My wife and eye will be keeping an eye on this site as we have a 2 month old

This is a message for the Fat Controller - you can now find the the link to your website by going to the Browse page and looking at "Websites that people recommend", so the link to your site is not buried!

I like your site, a lot.
I don't actually have any children but I still had a look. It's clean and easy to navigate. How did you create it?
How would you like to trade links? I'll post a link of your site on my website, either as a rotating banner on the homepage or a static link on my links page (you choose) if you'll add a link to my review site on your links page. What do you think?

Hi Happy Hubby
I have put a link to your site here (plus a comment and a rating): http://www.littlelegends.biz/items/60803. You can edit the description or add a photo etc if you sign up (obviously this is all free).
A link back would be great.
Many thanks for the feedback as well.

Doh - I put a full-stop at the end of the link - a typo on my part
This link should work: http://www.littlelegends.biz/items/60803
and you can navigate to it via the Browse button.
Thanks for the return link. Much appreciated.

The only thing I don't like about the site is that anyone can edit what I have written.
