DVDs play on PC nowhere else

Got thia iemail from a friend of mine not very well up on Vista anyone help?

I am trying to copy video from a camcorder onto a dvd .
We are using windows dvd maker (on vista) .
I have copied (burnt) onto a disc which plays on the computer
but will not play on any other dvd player .
This is the same with the photographs from the digital camera
I hope you can help !!!!

What type of disc is it? Has the disc been 'finalised'?

Don't know have just emailed him the question but he has less knowledge than me so expect not to know, I gather its a DVD and hes using software as above he can play on PC but not TV

discs is a dvd-r 4.7gb 8xspeed
but dont know about the 'finished' bit
is that something i should have done after copying?
or something on the disc
