Simple way to avoid the Digg Effect!
      #352938 - Wed Jun 13 2007 11:10 AM

I know a lot of you like www.digg.com. One of the problems with the site is the so called Digg Effect.

This is when a story reaches the front page of the site and everyone tries to view the page at once, often crashing the server. This usually passes after about 12 hours.

So the solution I have found is to open Digg on Page 5. This means you are going to be clicking on the stories that reached the front page around 12 hours ago. They should all open fine.

What you need to do is go to the relevant section you like to view normally, for instance Technology Stories. Then click page 5 at the bottom of the page. Then bookmark this page. I.e. http://digg.com/view/technology/page5

Simple

Inquisitive people will still be able to see the latest front page stories if they wish by viewing Top 10 in Technology on the right of the screen.

I know people might say you can use Duggmirror links. Well they are fine for showing a page impression. But what about if the whole site has crashed? Duggmirror doesn't work if you click links of the page itself.
