Tired of Google?
      #352646 - Mon Jun 11 2007 08:41 PM

If you are tired of "information overload" when searching for things on the internet then try Clusty.com.

Unlike most other search engines it actually groups similar results together into "clusters", so if you look for "secretarial services" as well as the usual list of results Clusty has sections for "Virtual assistant" "resumes", "transcription" and so on.

Clicking on the magnifying glass next to the search result previews that page.

Finally clusty.com collects searches from different search engines so you can be sure you don't miss what you are looking for.

Give it a try.

It sounds good, so I've bookmarked your link. Is the Clusty Toolbar obligatory or optional? I really don't want another Toolbar!

Madeline.
Don't answer that, I've been looking more carefully at the site and it seems that Toolbars are optional! I've added Clusty to both Firefox and IE7.

Thanks for that seem quite good, although I can't see where you can just view UK results like you can in Google.

I have added Clusty to my search engines on Firefox search box.

The easiest way is to add UK to the start of your search phrase or keywords.

If you go into the advanced options you can also restrict search to specific hosts, so ".co.uk" for instance.

Thanks for that tip and the one in "Advanced Options", both very useful.

You probably don't use IE7, but I do and as I added Clusty to it, I clicked on "Find More Providers..." and added Microsoft, Wikipedia and Ask.co.uk to my search options in IE7.

No, I must admit my main browser is Firefox, which does pretty much everything I need and does have a search bar which I can add different engines to as well.

Added information.

If you need to search Shakespeare, Clusty.com has a new Shakespeare Searched engine.

I mainly use Firefox too, but I also use IE7 and the Microsoft search in IE7 is very useful as you don't have to go to the site first to search. Very handy as it saves time for me, which is important as I have a dial-up connection. Firefox doesn't have the option of a Microsoft search engine.

Firefox does have a search box, which you can choose which search engine it uses.

I know and I always select whichever one is appropriate for my search. However, as far as I can tell, it doesn't give me the option to add Microsoft to the Search Engines. I often search the MS site, so I use IE7 for this.

You can add it, but it is a bit convoluted.

It seems that MSN's search is now called Live Search at: http://www.live.com/

Now, it's simply a case of if you know how to add additional search engines to the Firefox search box.

In that case, I won't bother! I usually have FF and IE7 open at the same time and it takes just one click to change from one to the other. I've already got Live Search on both FF and IE7.

Yes, of course I do! I added a few some time ago.

I just wanted to make sure, not everyone would.
