This new version is available now. You can either get it here or go to Help>Check for Updates... in the browser. You can also wait for the automatic notification of the new version. Using the updater is a lot quicker as going to my link means that you download the entire browser again!

Thanks Madeline - I haven't been keeping much of an eye on Firefox lately, so I didn't know about the update. It is now installed.
Just general comment. I remember when an update for Firefox used to cause at least a pageful of posts on most computer forums. Much debate about whether to install over the top of the old version or if it should be uninstalled first. The Profile and all kinds of aspects about Firefox might be discussed.
An update hardly causes a remark these days. I suppose that means that everything must go quite painlessly for most people. Posts are more likely to arise when things go wrong, not when they go right. Mozilla seem to have made the upgrade process almost a non-event, which must be good. It can make an update thread a bit quiet though

Mart, I've never had an issue installing Firefox on top of a previous version, however I can't remember from which version, think it was pre 1.5

I never have either but there were those who used to think it was best done by uninstalling and reinstalling. I believe that was the 1.0.x versions though. This update was finished so quickly that it seemed to be a 'patch' type of update rather than the whole program.

I think that's because, if you get the update via the browser, you get only the updated elements. I can't remember now, but I think mine only had to download 800+ KB, whereas the whole browser is 5.7MB. Some time ago, you got the whole thing regardless of how you updated. I once had a problem with an update where it just hung, but they helped me to sort it out on the FF forum, other people had the same problem with that update too.
