Opening a spybot download
      #34889 - Thu Jan 15 2004 09:15 PM

I have a Pentium3 processor with Windows 98 Se using IE6. I downloaded Spybot successfully to "C" My Downloads folder but when I tried to open it for use I got the message "C\My Downloads\Spybotd12exe is not a valid Win 32 application." What can I do to use this programme?

Sounds like the download might have got corrupted. Try downloading it again from here.

Thanks for your suggestion. However I downloaded Sybot again from your indicated site but when I tried to use it I got the same message again.

Hi

IE6 might be corrrupting the download. Try repairing IE6.

Click Start|Settings|Control Panel|Add/Remove Programs. Click on Install/Uninstall tab. Scroll down and click on IE6 SP1, then click add/remove button. Select 'repair internet explorer' from menu and follow prompts.

Try downloading again.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestion. I thought I had IE6 SP1 installed but when I opened the add/remove programme it only showed Internet Explorer Q824145 and when I clicked on this it only said This will uninstall Q824145 and restore your previous configoration. Do you wish to uninstall? I have no idea what Q824145 means and what has happened to IE 6 SP1. A right click on internet explorer properties and then version shows 6.00.2800.1106.

You have an up to date version of IE6. The number you quote is the latest. Here's a link to Q824145. It's a cumulative security update so don't uninstall it.

Hi

Please try scrolling down a bit passed Internet Explorer Q824145 to see Microsoft Iternet Explorer 6 SP1 and Internet Tools. Then try repair as suggested earlier. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the information. I found Miscrosoft Internet Explorer SP1 and used the repair facility. However when I tried to use the Spybot programme I got the same answer as in my original query.
