If You have an exposed email address which points to your AOL Master Name on AOL please remove it from Public view ASAP as it can be used to access your account bypassing the Password stage irregardless of it being an automatic or Manual Login!! And the hackers can see into your email and address books! Possibly your IM contacts too? And with a bit of work the Parental Control settings may be compromised? Same applies to Non Master screennames if they are used as a contact email address though the Parental controls maybe are inaccessible? I knew about this Security Issue a few months ago when My Brother who has his own locked screen name said he got onto my "locked " account several times by accident?!! I thought It was due to the software needing a reload and I did this ...yet My brother said the same thing last week!
And I didn't give it another thought thinking I have not done it right?
But Late yesterday an article(Blog) appeared on Google News...Read it fully may have some other remedies to my suggestions? AOL's Password Puzzler - Security Fix
It Says virtually word for word and More about the Password security Breaches
as I said above
AOL have not said a word about this...Only words they say is how secure the Email boxes are Protected against Spam! (Which doee work well ,I agree) But yet, this gaping Security Hole does not Merit an acknowledgment, comment or Patch!
My advice to AOL account Holders close down your Master names,Make a new screenname up and use that until this issue is resolved? Or in My case open a reserve screename But Do not make it a Master...to restrict damage if the worst does happen? About a 5% chance And If you are working with a Primary Master Name ON ITs OWN!(as many people do) this cannot be deleted! Do make up another Name (as a non Master) and switch to this on your sensitive contact pages Not much of a workaround but its a start
