Im new to using spreadsheets and have a question,
when typing in a number in the box eg; 017 the 0 disapears
and it becomes 17.
How can i get the 0 to stay there?

Open Excel, click the cell that you wish to format

Click Format | Cell

Scroll to Custom

You should see General in Type as shown below



change the General to 0000, this means that there will be 4 digits shown



so 17 will show as 0017, if your numbers do not exceed 3, then simply use 000 give you 017

Highlight the cells concerned and click Format, Number, and select Leading Zeroes then.
