Hi there, My in-laws who are pensioners spend at least half of the year travelling around Europe mainly Spain, Portugal and France as they live permanantly in a rather large camper van. They like to keep up with trends and of course keep in contact with us. They are thinking about buying a lap top computer but how do they access the internet when all they have is a mobile phone.
Thanks
Pete

It would work out quite expensive in call charges. Maybe they could use internet cafés to send emails home.
If their mobile is reasonably new then they could buy a cable to connect it to the laptop. (check the phone makers website under accessories)
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Back in the days when they paid me to play with PC's I used to connect my Laptop to my mobile using either the infrared port or a cable that I got off the net. Virtually every modern phone and laptop has IR capability. I know there are cables available for virtually the whole range of Nokia and Ericsson phones. The connection speed used to be a max of 9600 but I believe G3 is up in the 30,000 range. As previously stated I should check very carefully on the unit cost of a mobile when logged on to the net.

I know practically nothing about this sort of thing, but I'd go with Tim's suggestion. For simple things like sending e-mails, they could be prepared in advance, saved to a floppy, or perhaps a CD-RW for large attachments, and then sent very quickly from an internet cafe.
I'd imagine the replies could be transferred in pretty much the same way, even if they have to be converted to plain text files using Copy and Paste to get them into Notepad. There's probably a better way, but this is what I do with incoming e-mails I want to keep for future reference.
There is intelligent life on Earth, but I'm only visiting.

Thanks for all the advice, I've fed back all you have said and I think that they will stick to just sending us text messages.
Thanks again
