Go to Start | Search and do a search for *.dot
you will probably have a number of them including, hopefully, the ones you created with your unique filename
Highlight ones you have created, and Right click the file and click Delete
Once deleted they should be removed automatically from your Tasks tab | Personal Templates

Ok try this,
Open word, and click Tools | Options click the File Location Tab
under User templates, see what Location is given
it will most like be in the following location
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
If it is , use Windows explorer to navigate to that folder, delete the templates you no longer require

hi again i don't have word so i just searched for the folder title you gave me but then i was told i can't get at it because it is inaccesible or it has been moved,so i think i might just give this one up as a lost cause, unless of course you have any other ideas. very many thanks.............steve.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Name>\Application Data\Template and try deleting them there.
Make sure that Works isn't open

hello again i tried (OH GOD HOW I TRIED AND TRIED)but still to no avail. the best i can get is:-" the file has been moved ". if so, who moved it,and where to,'cos i sure as heck didn't i found and went through a great big list of folders and files of just about everything on my p.c.but they were either pic's or unopenable files. i think it's about time we gave this up as a bad job,so i would like to thank you for all of your advice. very many thanks............steve.

Don't give up just yet, they must be on there to be showing in your list
Try this, Go to Search and do a search for Templates

hi again i finally got a list up of templates as you suggested but they are all for other app's and the rest seem to have been created at the same time and on the same date,so i guess they are downloaded system templates. so it's over to you,if you want to keep trying,(if you trust your sanity ) cheers.............steve.

Can you remember the names you gave to these templates?
If you can even remember the name of one of them, it should be able to lead you to the location of the rest

hi there putasolutions HURRAY we got there at last this is how i did it:- start..search..all files and folders..type in"template title" when file appears..right click..click delete..then send to recycle bin..close results. start..m.S. task launcher..click templates button at top..click personal templates..click the template you want to delete..click yes in the dialogue box that comes up...JOB DONE.. there were three things i learnt whilst sorting this out. 1.never give a file a single letter file name(how many of my files had a D in them was rather eyeopening). 2.never give two or more templates the same title(the file that came up in search covered all files of that name...delete 1 delete all..). 3.NEVER GIVE UP ON A PROBLEM(you have taught me that this week).
A MILLION THANKS MATE .....ALL THE VERY BEST.........STEVE.

Well done you,
yes, I think a slightly more substantial name can help a bit
give yourself a pat on the back
