Mine are currently downloading, so I'll have to wait and see what I get! I'll let you know when I've got them.

I got the 3 updates that you said plus the following: Security Update for Office XP (KB934705) Security Update for Word 2002 (KB934394) Do you get your updates via Windows Update or Microsoft Update? If it's Windows update, you might want to check Microsoft Office Update.

Mine are routed via scheduled "Windows Update" and have no use for the Office applications. They were not installed, Outlook Express too when I had to reinstall Windows the other month. And when they were in place, I'd routinely refuse all updates for them.

Fair enough; I just wondered. We've got MS Works Suite on this PC which includes Word 2002. I've found Microsoft Update more convenient as it includes Office updates. Before I changed to it, I got updates via Windows Update and I had to check for critical/security Office updates separately.

I have Outlook 2003 installed on my PC, so got the Office 2003 update. It actually installed a day later than the Windows updates, and took a long time to install.
After the update, I have found that Outlook runs really slowly. It takes several seconds to catch up with what I type. No other applications run slowly.
Has anybody else experienced this?

Looks like it's KB191768 that is causing the problem (see MS Forum).
The simple, short-term, solution seems to be to get Outlook to automatically start in Outlook Today, but, no matter where I look, I can't find this option.

I've figured out how to make Outlook start in Outlook Today mode, and it seems to have solved the problem. Some other threads that might help those interested are:

I haven't had this problem as I use Outlook Express rather than Outlook, although I did get that update you mentioned (KB931768). Even if you did go a bit off-topic, people who've had this problem too will be able to find the answer here.

Rob, I've been having this problem with Outlook and yesterday after loading and opening first Email, it completely froze. I could not close either the Email or Outlook, End Program wouldn't work from Ctl+Alt+Del, indeed when I tried to close Outlook from the Processes it froze Ctl+Alt+Del. Tried to shut down the machine (my laptop) from Start menu and that froze. Couldn't get to System Restore, so with fingers crossed, shut down by holder power switch down. When I booted up everything was ok. Phew! I followed your links today and came up with this and this
As everything is OK today on both my PC and my laptop I've decided not to do a RIES rebott nor attempt any Registry fixes as suggested. Hopefully M$ will apply a fix of their own.

I wouldn't bother with the RIES reboot, or registry edits. Simply open Outlook in the Outlook Today mode, and it fixes everything.
Glad things are OK now.

How do I open in Outlook Today mode? I'm now having problems with Actic Synch between Outlook and my PDA since this last M$ download!

Open up Outlook Today (I found it by clicking on the shortcuts icon at the bottom left, and then clicking on Outlook Today). Then click on "Customize Outlook Today", then tick "When starting, go directly to Outlook Today", and then click on Save Changes.
It's interesting that you've had a problem synchronising your PDA, because I also can't synchronise mine, but I hadn't made any connection with the latest Windows Update. What type of PDA is yours (mine's a Palm Tungsten T5)?

Hi Rob, I've turned on Outlook Today and will see what that does. I have an HP 7150 with Pocket PC and running ActivSynch 4.2. When I came to syunch todauy (not done it for a week or so) it would not open the ActivSynch window even though it was going through synching in the task tray and when completed, the Emails has synched but Calendar had not. I've tried a soft reset on the PDA and now when I try to synch sometimes it won't automatically open ActivSynch others it loads on the Windows bar but will not display even though it is synching. However, it finishes with 10 unsynchronised items but when I click on resolve it comes up with a series of calendar entries which were already in both PDA and Outlook with an error message 8000404 which I am now trying to identify. Same symptoms as you? Alan

Totally different symptoms, and a totally different OS. My PDA is simply not recognised by WinXP at all.
Thanks for your comments.

I've just upgraded to ActivSynch V 4.5 which returned AS to view. Still had the offending Calendar items which I hhave removed and resynched and now back in harmony.
