We have lost all sounds on Family PC.
I have been into Sounds & Audio Device properties via btm tool bar speaker icon
and reset to windows default in Sounds tab.I have checked the volume controls as well.
I am running Windows XP home........
But still no sounds
Can anyone point me in the right direction TA!!!!!!!!

Have you checked the plug hasn't come out of the sound card at the back of the PC, and the speakers are powered OK?

If you go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio devices, does it say No device, or is your sound driver mentioned? If it says no driver, you may need to reload your sound driver.

Or you could try a System Restore to a time when the sound was working.

Thanks for reply.
When I open Windows media player from an e-mail attachment the sound on these are there, but all other PC related sounds,ie windows start up shut down etc, etc, are not,so the speakers are working OK,

I have checked in the Sounds and Device properties and everything seems to be OK the hardware tab even says that "This device is working properly".

So I think I'll try the system reore and see how I get on Thanks again and I hope the above info was some more use to you!!

If you look at the Sounds and Audio Devices and click on the Sounds tab, there's a little thing at the top that can be changed to No sounds or Windows default by clicking on the arrow at the side.
Check that's set to Windows default rather than No sounds and see if that makes any difference.

Or you can go down the various system sounds effects n the bigger window and set them as you wish - try setting the email receipt one, then sending yourself an email and see if it notices.
