Since a few days ago IE7 has been unable to find any websites apart from www.bethere.co.uk (my ISP). When IE is started (or I click on a link or type an address other than bethere I just get a spinning hour glass which spins away indefinitely). I can browse happily with Firefox, so I assume it is IE related. I have uninstalled IE7 and the problem is the same with IE6.
I am assuming this could be spyware related and have tried SpyDoctor (no change).
Any ideas???

What is will be is almost all pages is being blocked via the ActiveX controls settings. Is there a yellow warning ActiveX bar appearing when you visit any site?
Other possibilities. A misinstalled update? Could also be as yousaid somethings got through your Defences....And Asking a silly question If you are on Broadband Have you a firewall, and is it enabled? and there is a chance here that it has been blocked here too! Ps Can you get your Home Page displaying .And if so does it appear "complete"?

As mentioned I would look at firewall settings first to check it is not blocked for any resaon failing that... I would try resetting your web settings (Beware - this will reset everything, this includes your homepage and toolbars)
Go to control panel... Select internet options Click on the advanced tab First Select restore advanced settings button Now select the reset button underneath Now click on the apply button Now click on the OK button
Once done restart Internet Explorer, retry explorer and see if the problem has gone or not

Don't think its anything to do with ActiveX as there is no warning bar of any kind.

I have tried uninstalling all recent updates (3 in the last week) but this has made no difference.

I run Zone Alarm firewall and it is enabled

ZA appears to be running fine, it continues to update automatically (as incidentally does my AVG anti virus software.

The www.bethere.co.uk pages (ie. not just the homepage but everything at this site display with no problems)......which is what I find most odd about the problem.
As the usual methods are coming up with little Joy. Go to the HiJackThis forum and Post a log and the Helpers there will find the root of your issue Read the top pinned posting for details on how to do this Tell them you have no webpage access and Only the Homepage is showing so they'll know where to start looking

Just had a similar query posted on my other site and it seems the root cause is the Broadband routers built-in Firewall set up . Are you accessing the Internet via a Broadband Modem or a Router?

Another possible thing could be In theory the Windows firewall is "on" as well as your own (Conflicting) Hence it allows the ISP site "through" and Blocks the rest
Turn that off (in the Security Center folder (Control Panel)then and leave your firewall on ...See if that does anything?
Ps Mine is set up like this another (easier)way to look(or alter) these settings is to right click on the Network Connection icon and Click on Change Windows Firewall settings and you have direct access to the main settings folder
Tip Check on the "Exceptions" tab on this page to see the "blocked items" (Unticked)
