I have a 4th gen ipod with over 10gb of music stored on it.
I previously installed all of the software onto a laptop and downloaded my music with no problems at all. I had the itunes manager set to manual installer so that I did not have to save all of my music on my laptop (wasting memeory).
My laptop has since died and I have bought a desktop unit with VISTA installed. I have installed my old itunes driver disk and the software but, when I connect my ipod, it is saying that there is a problem with the itunes files and to reinstall itunes. This is continually happening.
I have even tried downloading the new version of itunes but am still not getting any joy.
When my ipod is connected, It is not being recognised in the itunes library. Hope this makes sense to somebody and they can help me.
Is it due to Windows Vista?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Damn thing still not working. God I hate computers some days.
OK so far i have done the following. Installed the Itunes disc. It loads up and then when I connect my Ipod, it does not recognise it and I have no library on the screen. I then get the message "reinstall software". I have checked the devices and it shows the ipod attached in E drive (?) is this correct?
I have then tried downloading the version 7.1.1 of itunes and it does not open or update the itunes that is currently on here.
Its really starting to annoy me know. Can this be due to Vista?

So you just can't download Itunes? Can you download other files (not related to Itunes)?

Still haven't resolved my problems with windows Vista and itunes not being compatible, but am now having further problems.
Just discovered this great website, where you can design your own VW Beetles and buses, http://www.busselecta.com/
So I logged on and had a play. When you click on the bus one, it gives you the uption of downloading the software onto your PC. I clicked on yes and a biox came up with a timer telling me that the software was downloading. Great I thought, but then when I came to use it, I can't find it anywhere.
Where the bloody hell is it?
I'm getting really annoyed with this new computer and am tempted to send it back to DELL and have vista removed and replaced with Windows XP.

Have you checked your downloads folder in your Documents? They could be there, if they are not there try saving the file to your desktop when you start the download.
When the box comes up asking where you want to download it too, try selecting your desktop then it won't be hidden away. What browser are you using?
Another way to find the files would be to take advantage of the great search facilities in Vista, just type the file name (ie Itunes) and if its anywhere on your PC, it should find it.

Tried both and still not working!! It still says that the file is downloading but it is nowhere to be found. Could you possibly have ago at clicking on the link and see if you are able to download to your computer. I am with VIRGIN (formerly blueyonder). Getting really annoying now, that I can not download anything. UPDATE - Have finally managed to download and install itunes and have my Ipod recognised, however, I set it up to manual installation as I always do and have just tried to load a CD onto it and guess what................ It has just wiped all of the music off my ipod and I can't find it anywhere to restore it. I am really fed up now.

The download link worked fine for me using Firefox, I also tried it in IE and it worked using that also, I dunno what your problem is.
As for Itunes wiping your Ipod, that's the way that it works I'm afraid, its not an error. You can only have your ipod synced with one PC, if you connect it to another and transfer music to it, it wipes it and syncs it with that PC, also, without transferring all the files to it again, there is no way of restoring the files, it is infuriating as I have been caught out by it before.
As for your downloading problems, you say you managed to get Itunes downloaded, where was that file on your pc, surely all files will be there? Assuming your using IE 7, once the file has downloaded, do you not get this box:

From here you can chose open folder to see where it has been saved, or does this screen just not come up?

I get the box saying that it is downloading, but not that one saying download complete. Gutted about the ipod. I thought that you could install the itunes software onto any computer and, if set up for manual rather than auto-syc, there would be no probs.

I think it's to stop you transferring tracks from pc to pc using your ipod, copyright and all that.
I am really confused about the downloading issue, on mine the box that shows the download progress turns into that box when the download is done. How did you get itunes to download and work?
Maybe it might be best to make a topic about the downloading problem you have in another area of the forum seem as your original problem about itunes is now sorted, there you should get the help of people that hang around there. I would post it in either the vista forum or the web browser forum.
