I recently recieved a laptop as a present and wanted to transfer some tv programs that I have on my PC to it to what on the go. The files work fine in the PC in either RealPlayer or Media Player. I've transferred the files to the laptop a number of different, such as using a mobile hard drive, copying them onto disk and setting my home network to send the files wirelessly. Nothing has worked. The files open and the software says that 'some portions of this file cannot be played. Would you like to check to see if there is an update available for this file?' if I say yes (in RealPlayer) it will connect to the website and come back and says there isn't an update, If I say no it play the file but only the sound - no vision. This is really frustrating!! Has anyone any ideas on the problem here?

The cause of this is that your laptop doesn't have the necessary codec to play the file.
download and run this freeware tool, Gspot
Have a read of the instructions here
This program should then be able to tell you what codec is missing from your computer that is needed to play the file.
If you post back which codec is missing, we should be able to find a location to download it from
