ftp settings
      #342054 - Thu Apr 05 2007 10:14 PM

Hi, wonder if anyone can help, if I am in the right place.
My site was hacked and now I can't access it using my coffee cup ftp programme. Any way I can re-hack my own site to use the coffee cup to edit it?
Thanks guys

Any hacker worth their salt will have changed your password, minimum. I reckon you need to contact your hosting company and have them reset it, and change your username.

Thanks for that, unfortunately my host won't reply to my emails, I am so 'hacked off' with them.

Emailed host saying if they don't reply within 7 days I will take it further and this is what I got in return...
Hi ____

According to our records there is an amount of £80.00 +vat still outstanding

Once these outstanding charges have been paid we will be happy to reinstate your site

regards

dpb

This £80 is for apparantly 'overloading their server' and for them to fix it. So they messed with my files, are they allowed to do that?

Presumably this is the first you've heard of this. If so, challenge them; why have they waited until now to tell you this? In what way have you overloaded their server? What proof do they have that this is the case should you choose to pursue it through the courts? etc.

Whatever you ask them, it may be worth a little bluff by saying your solicitor has suggested you ask these questions to clarify the situation...

Thanks for your response Hunter, as I am not a whizz on the web, I wasn't sure if they were using my naivety as I wouldn't know weather I had overloaded their server or not? I actually admitted to messing my site once so when ever anything went wrong, i assumed it was me. How do you overload servers, do the servers allow this? I want to hack back into my own website and lock them out!
