I got this update from the Sun/Java site earlier. This is Java SE Runtime Environment 6 update 1. The program is set to check for updates on the 16th of each month and it announced today that an update was available, so I got it. It was a lot less hassle than getting it from the Sun/Java site, although anyone can get it there: JRE 6 Update 1. It's the 4th download down.

I got it today through aotomtic notification (despite being told only 2 days ago that I had the latest version (1.59) installed. So it now replaces the previous 1.59 once and for all - and finally, as the standard version, clears the previous confusion - well mine anyway.

Hi Alan
Of course you weren't rude, you never are! I'm fine and hope you are too. I'm glad that you've got the latest version of Java. I remember the discussions a few months ago when we all seemed to be going round in circles and it was very confusing! This recent Java update was the first time I'd ever got an update automatically, which was quite a surprise, usually I'd have had to get it from the Java site.

So Java is now harmonised, I hope. However, I got the notification on my laptop automatically but not on my PC. Yet both were in "harmony" with the previous version. Had to do the PC manually. Ah, well 50% is better than none. Regards Alan

You could have a look in Control Panel and check Java>Update tab to see when it's set to check for updates. I think that if your PC's not on at the relevant time, it won't check for another month!

If you have a look at this post it seems that you should uninstall your old version(s) of Java before installing the new one.
