Widescreen monitors
      #338905 - Tue Mar 20 2007 12:30 PM

In the current Web User mag, I was drooling over the widescreen monitors, and wondering whether my current set up would support one without any hardware upgrade.

At present my screen supports 1280x1024 pixels, as opposed to the required 1680x1050.I`m not sure what my video card is, I have no build details for the computer, and the supplier is no longer in business. It is approx 2i/2 years old.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Geoff

There are many programs free to download that give you details of all your hardware -

Run one of these, then look up your graphics card on Google to see what it supports.

Thank you for your attempt to help me. I did as you suggested, and the download contained about ten files, eight of which Windows were unable to open. The other two were read me files relating to "an example", which bore no resemblance to my set-up. In short, to me it was gobbledegook.
Somewhere along the line, I got lost, but thanks anyway!
Also, I could not recognise what a graphics card spec would look like!
Sad, but true.

Sorry about that.
The one I normally use is Belarc Adviser but I couldn't remember it.
Run that one and your graphics card will be listed either as Graphics Card, or Display Adapter

You will then need to google on the graphics card name to find out what resolution it can support - or post it on here and somebody will no doubt look it up for you.

Thanks again!
This one was very easy to understand, even for me

The display adaptor is S3 Graphics Prosavage DDR, I`ve Googled it, but it`s not immediately apparent what it supports. I`ll look a bit deeper!

Hi again.
I've had a quick look on Google under S3 Graphics Prosavage User Guide but not found anything yet.
Their website Contact Us page is Here, so you might like to email them the question for an official response.

Just a quick update.
No response from the manufacturers, so after having a good look around, have decided to stick with the resolution I have.I`ve seen some nice 19" TFT screens that would do all I need, so that`s the way I`ll go.
Thanks for your help.
