Referring to an earlier very long thread, I am still having trouble getting the Officejet 6310 four-in-one FAX up and running. The trouble stems from the fact that the wrong phone connector cable was included with the printer. It was a 4-wired conductor phone cable instead of a 2-wired. The conclusion that I had the wrong cable didn’t sink in with HP for quite a while. Even though I told them that the Fax Test message failed because as it stated ‘the wrong phone cable was being used’. I kept telling HP that I was using the cable that was included and it finally sunk in.
HP gave me the Part Number, and said that I should contact one of their partners to get the cable – which I did. I gave the ‘Partner’ the part number and waited for the item to arrive and when it did – guess what – it was the 4-wired conductor phone connector! I phoned the supplier who told me that the item supplied was, in fact, the part number given to me by HP. They checked their HP catalog and said they don’t have a listing for a 2-wired conductor phone connector.
This has been going on since the beginning of February – I just emailed HP again to see if I get any satisfaction. (By the way the cable cost me £19. I asked HP about getting my money back – but they gave me a convoluted explanation as to what I should do.) Anyway, I’ll have to send it back to the Partner and I’ll probably finish up losing out on the postage involved.
