Hello all,
My hard drive is currently using the FAT32 system, but I'm going to convert it to NTFS using the inbuilt XP Format function.
My question is - will I need to reinstall my OS? I know I'll lose all of my data - but will this include the OS? I'm running XP Media Centre by the way.
Thanks,
Danny

You don't use format, go to Start, Run, type cmd and press enter. Type convert c: /fs:ntfs and press enter. I assume you want to convert the c drive hence the c:. Also note the space between : and /.
It will take a few minutes and will reboot. If it works properly, which it usually does, you won't lose anything at all.

Just to add some further information which may be useful. Some PC/Laptop manufactures such as Acer use a FAT32 system on some of their products and the recovery software will only work on FAT32. Should you opt to change to the more efficient NTFS system, the software will not work and you may not be able to install the OS again along with the original programs supplied when purchased.
