On start up I get a message that bullguard my antivirus prog has shutdown and my computer is at risk although this does not appear to be correct the program is active it tells me to press the balloon on the start bar to get info but this has already disappeared by the time I can do anything can anyone help please my operating system is xp home edition. thanks in anticipation
Looks like a visit to the HijackThis forum is needed. Please follow the instructions in AndrewC's post here and post your HJT log by starting a new thread, in the HijackThis forum only (not here in Windows XP help).
Before you do anything else, visit the Bulldog website. They have a support section.
From experience this could be a symptom of another startup program not letting go of a necessary resource. A good thing to do is download Windows Defender which has a very useful startup manager built in.
