moving video from h/d to edit

have home made video on hard drive, trying to move it into studio 8,
or windows movie maker,to edit some bits without much luck could someone help.

Both those applications allow you to import video into the work space. However, this is dependent on the file format being compatible and possible some size limitations.

Thanks for the reply, the file in mention is 298 m b and the file system is U D F.
Had this program for about 3 yrs always thought it was for copying and writing,
And never used it until last night, is there any way that I can change the format,
To do some editing on this program.

What was used to create the file in the first instance, and how was it placed on the hard drive?

the file was downloaded from my JVC camcorder onto pinnacle studio 8,
it was then edited and burned to disk with the same program.
i then used pinnacle instant CD/DVD to copy the disc to my hard drive.
new drive created in my computer for this disk (j ) went into properties,
then settings it says STATUS read only, hope this will help.
