Automatic Connection
      #33644 - Fri Jan 09 2004 10:29 PM

I recently switched to broadband and I would like my computer to connect automatically to the Internet at each startup. How could I do this? I don't want to just launch the network connections box because you have to press dial, I want it done automatically. Any suggestions, Thanks.

Assuming you're using IE. drag the IE icon into your 'startup folder'. It will suggest a shortcut instead, click 'yes' and IE will launch after the PC has finished booting up.

Not sure about the 'dial bit' if you have BB ??? With NTL, clicking on the IE icon opens the homepage straight away as it is literally 'always on'
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Mine isn't always on, I have to go to Start> Network Connections and then click BT Yahoo and click Dial to connect.

I take it you use XP (as in, hardly any icons on ther desktop) Do you have a 'quick launch' bar next to the start button? If so, does your browser launch your homepage when you click the IE icon on it?

Nope the Dial Up connection box comes up, it connects and then shows my homepage. Its ok now, I've realised there is no way.

Try this

Go to Internet Explorer
Go to Tools | Internet Options | Connections
Ensure that your b/b connection is set as default and that dial if anetwork connection isn't present is checked

Now go to Start | Run
Type in regedit
find the following key in the left pane

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Click Edit | New | String Value
Right click and click modify

Give it the value

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

note all spaces and punctuation

close regedit and restart your compiter
