I am using BT Yahoo Internet Browser but downloads from the internet appear to be blocked and there is no popup context menu when I right click on a picture. But the main problem is I cannot access the 'Internet Options' dialogue to make the necessary changes. The 'Internet Options' option is missing from the Tools Menu and if I try to run the 'Internet Options' from the Control Panel the hard disk momentarily fires up then .... nothing. No Options dialogue at all and NO error message. Incidentally there appear to be other options missing from the Browser menus - opening the Help menu, for instance, displays only a small square box! IE7 probably tried to insinuate itself on the PC during an earlier session - maybe it only got half done!? My Operating System is XP home. Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum. You're statement that , "maybe it only got half done!" ,is one possibility. Try downloading IE7 again. It should overwrite the settings you are using and hopefully repair what's missing.
IE7 download.

Many thanks. I did wonder about that BUT will downloading IE7 affect my existing BT Yahoo Browser settings other than to possible fix the problem. Or will I then need to re-install the Bt Yahoo Browser. In other words is the BT Yahoo Browser just a 'skin' on the top of IE7? Thanks

I'm sorry Chris , i didn't read your post as thoroughly as i should have. It seems the problem is with BT Yahoo Internet Browser and not IE7. As I'm not familiar with the Yahoo browser I'm having to scout about... this...site for info. If i find anything I'll get back to you , but preferably somebody that uses Yahoo may read this and can give more informative advice.. I'm not in a position to give concrete advice but maybe a reinstall of the Yahoo browser would be an option. You could always make a system restore point which you could go back to should anything go wrong.

The BT Yahoo! browser, although visually pleasant, is not yet compatible with IE7. BT Yahoo! is my ISP, but I don't use their browser because, quite frankly, their software sucks! You would be better off using IE7, where you will be able to access Internet Options perfectly well, than using a browser which is still based on IE6 as the BT Yahoo! browser is. IE7 is a vast improvement on IE6 and is more secure. No doubt BT will catch up eventually, but in the meantime use IE7.

Thanks FifeFlyer - I had a look at the site you mentioned but .... Am considering setting default IE to IE7, Telling BTYahoo to check if it's the default, reloading IE7, running INETCPL.CPL from the Run Menu (if necessary) then .... Thanks again

Thanks Madeline, The problem is still the missing 'Internet Options' from the Control Panel but I expect they will reappear when I re-install IE7 and tell BT Yahoo IE to go away. By the way - how best would you recommend I re-install IE7 without affecting the BT Yahoo Browser? Thanks again Chris

If it was me, I'd either go to Microsoft/Windows Update and download it from there or use FifeFlyer's link. I think you'd have noticed if IE7 had been downloaded by Automatic Updates, as you had to agree to install it - that part wasn't automatic. Also, if Windows Internet Explorer 7 doesn't show up in Add or Remove Programs, you haven't got it. If you decide to get IE7, you may get error messages due to the incompatibility of the BT browser with IE7, but they can be fixed, I've seen them on here. It's over 2 years since I used the BT browser, so I'm a bit hazy about it, but I remember that when I used the dial-up box, I could set the connection to open in IE. I expect there is a similar option if you're a broadband user.

Guys - the problem deepens. The BT Yahoo Browser a) will not allow downloads and b) does not have anything at all under the Tools Menu Option. Also running the Internet options icon in the Control Panel has no result (nor has running (inetcpl.cpl). I did download ms IE7 on another PC and then ran it on the BT PC from a flash drive. It took 30 mins to "install" then die. Any idea how to best uninstall whatever broken browser bits are on the PC and reinstall ie7? Regards

The only thing I can suggest is that you contact BT. If you can, open the browser as far as possible, go to "My Account" and click on "Go To Help Pages". There you can do a search to see if you can find out anything about your problem, there's a search box with a drop-down menu which includes the BT Yahoo! Browser. If that doesn't help, there's a link to "Contact Us" on the left hand side of the page.

Madeline - many thanks. I realised whilst trying to access help from the menus/tool bars that it MUST have been the previous partial installation of IE7 that messed it up. So I re-reinstalled IE7 (having downloaded it on another PC) and that worked. All Menu items and Tools (including the Internet Options dialogue from the Control Panel!) were restored. Unfortunately the wireless network adaptor is no longer recognised so I can't get back on line yet to see if downloading has been restored. Re-installing the wireless network adaptor software did not work either - Microsoft's "Found new hardware" dialogue insists that there is new hardware and it cannot find the software for it - even though I had already installed it from the Belkin install disk. I guess I need a new forum now!!!! Thanks again

Hi Madeline, Chris and FifeFlyer, I hope It's ok to post my query here, it is sort of relevant. I've just got BT Broadband and I don't want to use the BT Yahoo browser but IE seems to be a lot slower. I can open up the yahoo browser and IE at the same time but IE just doesn't browse as quickly as the BT yahoo browser. I did some trials by trying to access the same websites using the different browsers and IE is about ten times slower???? Could it be something to do with the connection options set in IE. I dont know which version of IE I am currently using. I'm at work at the moment and won't be at my home pc 'til tonight. Guess it's IE6. Any ideas!!!!!

Hi _Ray, I'm afraid I'm a bit lost here myself but it my be usful to check if the phishing filter is on or if you have add-ons like the Google bar that are doing other checks and slowing it down. Sorry I can't help much on this. Chris

Thanks for the reply Chris, after speaking to some work colleagues they believe that because IE was previously being used for a dialup ISP (Tesco) then the IE browser has become 'Tescoed' and the general consensus is that I uninstall IE and install IE7. I'll try that!

That sounds eminently plausable - and IE7 seems ok provided it's in it's original configuration and not been hi-jacked by an ISP.

I hope it's not too late to say this, but don't try uninstalling IE6. Just download IE7 and when you install it, it'll automatically replace IE6. Be aware that there are compatibility issues with the BT software and IE7, although that may have been resolved by now. If you want a fast browser, you could consider using Firefox. It's worth giving it a try; if you don't like it, you can easily uninstall it. Sorry for the late reply, I haven't been here much recently due to flu.
