Can I get a printer for under £50 with media card slots? mainly to be used for printing photos but also for letters. Cheap cartridges are important as I currently have an all-in-one Lexmark X 1150 which never has ink as cartridges are so expensive. Thought I may as well get a new printer rather than buy two cartridges at full price for the Lexmark . Also can I still use old printer just for scanning when new printer is connected? Many Thanks if you have any advice.

Today is not your day ........
Tomorrow isn't looking good either.
Cost of consumables normally goes up as the price of the printer comes down. So if you get a printer for under £50, I'd expect you to be no better off.
I've always found HP to be very economical on ink, though don't know if anything in their range would do the job for you.
Your best option would be IMO is to sell the Lexmark for as much as you can on something like eBay or Amazon or your local paper then put what you make towards the £50 budget and buy another all in one!
Either that or look at refilling the cartridge(s)!
All in one printer here compatable cartridge price not to bad. There were some all in one printers the other week that were referbs knocking about on the same site.
How about this for under £40 from HP the C3180 and has a memory card reader for the following, CompactFlash™, Sony Memory Stick®, Sony Memory Stick® Duo, Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard, xD-Picture Card
