Can anyone please help? This evening my stepson brought me his 2 month old toshiba A-100 satellite laptop in tears! I switched it on and an error message saying that windows could not open properly and gave me the 3 different safe mode options, but none worked. I eventually decided to run the Product Recovery Program and this appeared to run fine until a message appeared stating ' The file ql2300.sys is corrupted. Press any key to continue'. What should I do? If i contact toshiba will they repair it? Any help GRATEFULLY appreciated. Also when I try to run windows from the 'last settings that worked successfully' option, it appears to run successfully until the XP loading screen appears, then dumps everthing and displays a blue screen for a few seconds.
Thanks. Robbie

Doesn't sound good. Is the blue screen there long enough to read? The part to look for is a stop code, something like 0X000008E, about 2/3 of the way down.

The blue screen was there for a few seconds then went before I attempted to use the product recovery disk, but on a later attempt to reinstall the product recovery disk, I did read a stop number which said STOP: then three dif 0X00 sortf of numbers.......

It's the end of the first numbers that you need, eg 0x0000008E
However, these stop codes usually relate to hardware problems or faulty drivers. as it's fairly new I wouldn't bother messing around. Take it back and get it fixed or (preferably) replaced.

IF anyone you know has the same model laptop, ask to use their recovery discs. It is also a long shot, but try a lens cleaner for you CD drive and give the discs you have a nice clean. This happened with my Satellite P10-304 last year, managed to grab someone elses discs, worked a treat.
If you do find Toshiba recovery discs from someone, make sure the model numbers match on the laptop and the discs
